There's Life, Even in the Sand

We used to have the world in
The palms of our hands;
Now we’re left with nothing
But two fists full of sand.

Let me take you back to
When we climbed great heights;
Let me take you back to
When we arrested the nights.

The Sun never set until we’d had our fill,
The Moon never fell until we’d found our thrills;
Oceans spoke softly while we took in the sands,
Winds whispered gently with the wave of our hands.

Let me take you back to
When we let down our hair;
Let me take you back to
When we let fall our cares.

We used to have the world in
The palms of our hands;
Now we’re left with nothing
But two fists full of sand.

Fighting Fate

We can set our sights on unknown heights,
Though we may still tumble down;
We can set our eyes upon the skies,
Though we may never leave this ground.

Do not fear to hear your heart,
Don’t silence your sweet dreams;
Follow the whispers in your soul
To the lands you’ve never seen.

We might set our sights on flashing lights,
Though we may never know their warmth;
We might set our sails for ocean flights,
Though we may never leave this shore.

When the truth is stronger than the pain,
The past cannot persist;
When we’ve won the war inside our minds
There’s nothing left to resist.

Atop These Sands

The light is growing dim,
I can see it in your eyes;
Your fight is fading thin,
It sinks down into the tide.

Let it go,
Just let it ride;
Let go your fear,
And free your pride.

In the morning you’re a king,
By lunch you’ve lost your luster;
Come sundown you’re defeated,
By bedtime you’re beyond flustered.

Let it go,
Release your mistrust;
Let go your angst,
And fly from this cusp.

Illumine your misfortune,
Make it feed from your scarred hands;
Restrain your fleeting fancies,
Make a home atop these sands.
