We Are Safe

I remember what you said when
The dark swept us away:
“Hold on tight, don’t lose your mind;
We will pass through this night.”

Your words hung softly on my heart,
They calmed my trembling hands:
“Hold on tight, don’t lose your mind;
We’ll make it through this night.”

I remember what you said when
The tide took us afar:
“Come close, son, for now we wait;
We’ll close our eyes and pray.”

Your voice rang out over the waves,
It soothed my seasick soul:
“Hold on tight, don’t lose your mind;
We’ll make it through this night.”

I remember what you said when
The Sun sent us a kiss:
“Open your eyes, the Moon is gone;
We made it through the night.”
